The Orb Project

The Orb Project

Having taken many orb pictures of my own, both intentionally and unintentionally, I was eager to read The Orb Project, by Míċeál Ledwith and Klaus Heinemann. Each author independently researched and documented photographing orbs over several years coming to various conclusions and theories.

Prior to the book’s release, I attended a local lecture given by Ledwith where I had the opportunity to see dozens of photographs presented in his slide show, some of which also appear in the book. He has gone beyond capturing standard round white orb images to recording hexagonal shaped orbs, orbs surrounding him in a vortex, orbs of different colors and orbs with missing segments.

The fact that orbs have rarely been reproduced on standard film cameras caused Ledwith to spend considerable time testing different digital cameras to determine what physical requirements might exist in order to capture orbs. He discovered that a camera’s sensitivity to the near-infrared spectrum is critical to its ability to pick up orbs. Along with a detailed system to test a camera prior to purchase in order to ensure this capability, Ledwith offers tips for anyone to take their own orb pictures. It is not a skill limited to psychics or those who are otherwise gifted.

Heinemann’s contribution to the book appears as a separate section with his own sample of photographs. He focuses on debunking the theory that orbs are merely dust or water vapors. While he acknowledges that this can cause false orb images, he is convinced that this is not the explanation for all orbs. Having taken orb photographs in many conditions myself, I agree that just because orbs can be intentionally created with dust or water, does not disprove that all orbs are due to such effects.

Heinemann offers several indicators to determine an orb’s authenticity including: orbs moving rapidly (displaying a blur effect); an orb with the same internal characteristics appears in successive images; orbs in extraordinary locations; and orbs are present then not present in photos taken quickly one after the other.

While many hypotheses are advanced in the book, both authors acknowledge that the full truth about orbs is not yet known. They conclude that “orbs are for real, and they are connected with realms that are outside of normal human perception.”
